Managed to get it working again, My only other problem is i can only get sound out the left side of the earphones any help on getting the sound out both ears would be very much appreciated?

once i've recorded a track and playing it back i get sound out both ears but when recording the guitar only through the left ear.

Can I ask some questions:

1. How many USB devices are you using? (such as Keyboard? mouse?)

2. Sometimes headphones short out (bad connections or bad wire) you said only LEFT side is working but not the RIGHT side..make sure by testing the LEFT and RIGHT with your external speakers to see if maybe it is NOT the head phones.

I am posting a short cheap video of my us-800 and will be doing some more soon. Sorry this first one is so cheap but they will be better soon :)

hi

i'm using two usb ports one for a mouse the other for the tascam, i'm pretty sure its someting easy to fix it cos when i record something then play it back i get sound off both, its just when i'm recording its only out the left if that makes sense

That is weird. Are you recording on a mono track? What DAW are you using? Cubase LE5 that came with the Tascam?

I have used the cubase LE5 and Reaper its the same on both, I was recording Mono track on the cubase, my headphones havent got a 1/4 in jack could that maybe be the problem?

I have thrown away more 1/8" to 1/4" adapters than I can remember. They are notorious for failing. But, you say playback works through your headphones right?

i can hear the right one working but just no sound coming through it, they are just cheap headphones but they should work

I don't know what else to do there man. Something must be panned in your monitoring of the track, or only feeding one input to a stereo track. Dig deeper into your recording chain and see what you come up with.

aye, when i record it then play it back i can hear out both ears?

also on the mixer window that comes up, when i check the sound only the left bar moves the the right one doesnt move

I am stumped man. If you are recording to a mono track, you should be hearing what you are recording, the same as when you playback.

Sounds like a stereo input bus man. That is most likely the issue. Check your input bus. I bet it is a stereo one. Go mono yo! :D

I'll mess about with it again later, I'm pretty sure it easily fixed just need to work out how to fix it lol, thanks for your help anyway

is your guitar plugged into channel 1, or 2 for example?...if so, plug it into 4 or 5, and see if you now start hearing your recording as it`s happenning out of the Right ear, instead of the left..

Also, where are your head phones plugged in it, the US-800, or are they plugged into your computor?

I'm recording the guitar through a condenser mic and thats plugged into channel 1, I'm also plugging the headphones into the tascam us 800, I'll try plugging the mic into a different channel

cheers

Fixed it lol it was pannned to the all the way to the left instead of the centre, I knew it was something stupid.

Nice! Glad you got it figured. Don't worry, only a year or so of silly things that piss you off! lol!

It is usually something little that causes big issues. Patience and a bit of help from this forum, will keep you sane. Maybe.....

Enjoy man. :D

update

Glad you got the LEFT RIGHT sound working...pepe1873

Today I had a good friend come over he played and sang we dropped 2 tracks using that free KRYSTAL software I mentioned...love it! Works great!

with 2 tracks we then plugged in his electric for over dubbing (we used MIC 1 for his electric) and he played some backup to his song. Ended up with 6 tracks and then mixed them...what a blast I love this little US-800 it had not given me any trouble at all.

Tried to upload some "videos" and they did not take so I am trying again...sorry for delay there

I also discovered you CAN record more than 1 track with AUDACITY but you need to select it in the setup where it says STEREO go ahead and make it 4 or 6 whatever...the thing is that when you want to record only let's say tracks 4,5 and 6 it will record ALL 6 tracks at once in other words you end up with 6 channels and some are blank or silent (make sense?) At that point you can simply delete the blank tracks and keep what you want, it's not like REAPER or CUBEBASE but it does work. I still use AUDACITY because I can tweak MP3 or WAV that I made from other DAW such as Krystal (whuch I am using now)

OK OK soon the videos :guitar:... peace!
