I'm curious to know if it is safe to hook up a TASCAM US-2000 (USB Audio Interface) to a PA System (Peavey). I'm trying to ditch the mixer in the PA System, since it really isn't a lot of use, being that I basically play and record through the computer now. Guitar, vocals, drums, etc. And also use the PA System as audio for the computer for music, jamming, and so on.
Had a set up with M-Audio Fast Track Pro before, but it required the use of a huge mixer that was only acting as a bridge between the USB Audio Interface, power amp, and the speakers.

Basically the setup I am looking for is like this:
TASCAM hooked to the computer via USB and...
2 speakers (tall Peavey speakers with two 16s each) hooked to power amp (also Peavey) hooked to TASCAM US-2000 monitor outs or line outs.

Is this possible? And if it is, is that the correct setup?
I wanted to make sure I didn't fry the TASCAM by hooking up a power amp to it. I basically want to replace my mixer in the PA with the Tascam to open up space and get rid of the mixer. Its bulky and useless since everything goes through a USB Interface anyway.

Thanks for the help!

I can't imagine there being any harm- the signal path is FROM the source to the power amp, not the other way around. If the Tascam has pre-amplified out signals, it should even work! If the output is very low, chances are the Tascam lacks those pre-amps. The mixer has those pre-amps, so if the Tascam lacks them, you will need the mixer, or something with pre-amps.

I would setup the configuration to use the monitor outs from the Tascam to drive the power amp to make sure you have a physical
volume control.

yes it works great for that especially if you want to have fun and add some effects just be careful with the latency! But if you have in mixed between the input and the computer for the output the volume will be 2 low like they said and you will need a preamp. I've used this approach to add some nice vst effects to one or two channels in a live scenerio.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I just got it hooked up today and its working great! Actually it's damn loud! Having some dropout issues, but I think I should be able to fix it with some latency changes or closing out some background programs. Thanks again!
