Drama, Drama, always with the drama. :D
Glad you're up and running.
Was amused at your problem with W8 compatibility. That's the default mode...Sorry, shouldn't laugh at your expense, but I just had this vision of you pacing back and forth trying not to break your 10 month spree!! Good on ya!
BTW, maybe you could lay down the tracks and make the contest adding the vocals on that contest. That way you could give the mike to whoever you think will be able to use it most (best voice with the worst mike or whatever).

Hehe...No chance of that happening. I'm in better cardio shape than a 15 year old now. I skip for 20 minutes straight. I challenge anyone to do that. :D

Or, I can make it that you have to do the vocal track with the mic I'm giving away. It would be like putting someone in a round room and telling them to sit in the corner. :D

Thanx. Yeah, the 800 is already in the box ready to be shipped to Chili.

For those of you that don't know the story, I had posted about getting a new interface a few days ago. Within hours, Chili offered to trade my 800 for his 1800 straight up. We both got our respective interfaces from Jimmy a year or 2 ago for $100.

So, this is all about Jimmy's and Chili's generosity. When the time comes for me to ever change interfaces, I'll be giving this one away for free to someone who needs it, just to pay all the generosity forward. I won't be changing it for a while, but when the time comes, I will.

In the mean time, I'm going to be ordering a new mic from B&H or Sweetwater in the next few days, so I will be giving away my current vocal mic, which is an AKG C3000B. I'll figure out a way to decide who to give it to in the next few days. Maybe I'll post some tracks and have a mix contest with the mic as the prize. :)

Good deal. Glad it all worked out. I think the 800 is going to be a better fit for my needs.

I like the idea of another mix contest.

See, this is what I mean by the 800's control panel. Looks like a little mixer. I don't see this for the 1800: tascam us800 control panel.webp

Look at this guy. How does he get this 1800 display. It might be what you see in Cubase, so maybe that's why I don't see it.Tascam1800ASIODeviceSetup&Control Panel InCubase.webp

Never mind my above question. Jimmy answered my "Control Panel" question before I even asked it. I just re-read through the thread and saw this.:

There isn't even a separate control panel for the US1800 like there is with the 800....

There might be an upside to the 1800. Is it possible to edit the "Show As" column? Now that would be very useful and I have a feeling it can be edited. (I didn't look it up, just a quick hunch).

No, that picture is irrelevant to me after all. It's a display that shows only in CUBASE. I use REAPER. I'm good. I don't need to complicate things any more. It's working fine. :)

Just thinking it would be nice if you could label what was plugged in to what port. Instead of Port 10, you see Gibson, port 11, Bass, Port 1, Shure XYZ. Something like that would be pretty cool.

Maybe it is a DAW setting rather than an interface setting.

Cool deal, good luck recording.

Get a Mac and problem solved. I use a Mac Mini and my US-1800 works great.

Hehe...Let's start another useless Mac vs. PC thread.....or not.

Weird, I have a PC and my problem was solved anyway. Strange how that works, eh? :D

LOL!
Keep in mind I'm a mac guy.....but.
The 1800 is about the only interface I can think of that doesn't play work with OSX aggregate device.
That might not matter to most, but it tickled me.

I just ordered an 1800 but it hasn't shown up yet, but now I'm a little concerned. What's the reason for using an aggregate device in Mac OS X? So I can use more than one sound device at the same time? Like the laptop speakers and the output on the 1800 too?

EDIT: Nevermind. I found it. That's exactly the reason you would use an aggregate device. Kinda sucks, but not a deal breaker for me.
