Hi all,

Total newby here! I recently bought the Tascam US-122 MKII USB Audio/MIDI Interface to record mic inputs and Yamaha CS1X keyboard into Cubase. The CS1X is connected to the US-122 via MIDI cables which is then connected to laptop through USB. Trouble is I cant get the MIDI to function how it should. The MIDI IN light does not come on at all. Should the MIDI IN light come on just by pressing a key on the keyboard? Or does the whole thing need to be set up correctly in Cubase before it will even think about identifying MIDI?!

If I record MIDI tracks into Cubase using another keyboard, and then set the OUT channel to my CS1X and play it back, the MIDI OUT light does come on but does not transmit the data to the CS1X in order for the sound to come out. At least I think its not transferring data! There is certainly no sound coming out of the CS1X anyway!

So all in all I'm having no joy with the MIDI. Is it a problem with the unit? I would have thought the Tascam MIDI IN light would come on just by hitting a key on the keyboard but is that not how it should work? Any help appreciated!

I have no idea on this specific keyboard but first Id try to get a hold of another midi device to see if it worked with the tascam...if it does you can rule the tascam out.

Then Id look to see if you have to set your CS to transmit midi, if the channel transmitted is the same as the tascam receives (does Tascam have a control panel on your PC?), does the CS needs to have its local sounds turned off to be used as a midi controller..process of elimination Im afraid

Cubase wont have anything to do with the tascam receiving midi in the first place, if, however, Cubase is showing its receiving midi on the track but no sound is coming out, then it would be the problem

I tried the TASCAM with another MIDI device and still no joy.

The MIDI In light is not coming on at all so if you think this is independant of the DAW then it sounds like a duff unit. I've tried turning the Local Sounds Off on the CS1X with no difference.

If I play a MIDI track back through Cubase then the MIDI Out light does come on, but this is not being played through the CS1X. I think I'll have to take the unit to a qualified vendor so they can test it properly.

As far as I can see the Send and Receive channels are set to 1. There is no control panel for the TASCAM to retrieve specific channels etc.

do you have any other midi device to test the tascam first just in case the problem is with the CS? Do you have another midi cable in case thats the problem?

? may help no promise

I feel your pain, I have a Tascam US-122 and when I bought a new Imac (the current mid July 2010 models) and running Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.4 (shipped that way) , The Tascam US-122 did not have Snow Leopard Drivers , (stopped at OSX 10.5.x Leopard ) but I surfed the net and found info (I have not posted enough to post a link to the web site ) where users of the Same unit downloaded the Universal Binary drivers (PPC-Intel) and also used a USB Powered Hub (plugged in to AC) , when they disconnected the powered hub (USB 2.0) their Tascam US-122 would not work , Plugged the powered hub in and peripheral devices in (re Audio Interface and ? keyboard (the thread I read was getting the A/I to work ) and Powered USB 2.0 Hubs are not that costly Belkin, Griffin, Even several used ones bought at Radio Shack, there is info as well in Apple Support on USB 2.0 ports (they put put 5V and 500ma but some devices (such as a Audio Interface without a external power supply ) of which I think applies to the US-122MK and US-144MK (adding SP/DIF) I found the info surfing Tascam US-122 and Mac Snow Leopard Compatibilty (as I did download the Universal Binary drivers and no go) and figured well its one of the first items I bought when recording etc, its USB 1.1 and its been a good run, I can not promise You thats The solution but the signs and symtoms You descrive are also on that site with models such as yours and the white unibody models the US-122L ? e-mail me and I will provide the web site
