I am so frustrated.

I'm gonna take this thing one step at a time....then maybe i can get some sound out of this thing.

First off -- does this take the place of a soundcard? Do I no longer need to run ANYTHING in or out of my soundcard?

Secondly -- i thought maybe the problem was the mic and maybe i need some PHANTOM power -- but when i turn it on it kills everything - even if i exit my recording program and turn all the knobs down on the US 122 and start over. I have a Shore mic 57 model maybe?

Do I monitor this directly from the Tascam thing? I plugged my monitors in there... Roland MR8s....but do they need to be connected to the computer as well?

My goal was a simple one -- or at least i thought it was.... I want to make some bass and drums in band in A Box then record 2 audio tracks - one with guitar and one with vocal.. mix em up (a whole new thing I know nothing about).

Please help me........ Thanks .. Patti

us122 does count as a soundcard. you dont need a soundcard if you plannin to record and monitor out of the us122 so you dont need to run anything in or out of your soundcard. better off just goin to control panel and turnin all the soundcard settings in the audio and devices shortcut to us122.

i think you gonna have to take your sm57 back cuz you might have blown it up. phantom power is for condenser mics like the shure ksm27, akg 535, etc so dont switch it on when you got a sm57 plugged in cuz its a dynamic mic. when you say "kills everything" do you mean cubasis cuz if you do all you gotta do is reinstall it. i was havin the same problem when i reinstalled my us122 drivers and the muhfuckin computer would just restart itself when i loaded up cubasis.

monitor from the tascam.. thats why its there. think of your us122 as everything but a keyboard and sampler.

hopefully this works and if it does good luck. if it dont well welcome to the club, this thing has been a bitch to me too. it clicks all the damn time on recording and playback and i wanna put a couple bullets in it.

Thanks!

I turned off the phantom power.....just in time i think.

Everything seems better now but I did not actually try to record anything yet...... the little tests are better.

The main thing that got me going better was I installed Roland VSC3 - it came with a program called Band in the Box......some kind of a DXI thing whatever that may be.

But other then that I went back in and set the recording and playback in windows to default to the tascam so i now have midi and audio playing back through there.

I know more problems are on the way when I actually try to record a song.

Thanks for your help! Keep me informed, please, of any changes you make to improve the performance of the damn thing.

Yeah - i almost threw my 122 against the wall cause i don't have any bullets.
