Hi all.

For demag'ing my Tascam 388, does anyone suggest using the E-3 demagnetizer that was in the manual of the 388?

Also there is an RC-70 12 pin for sale. I looked in the 388 manual, and it says the RC-71 is what is recomended. Personally, I cant see any differences between the two? Can anyone point them out to me, and would the RC-70 work w/ the 388?

Lastly, does anyone use an RC-30P punch in pedal? Are that that usefull? I would think that if you are a guitarist it would be great to have for your deck, but since I am a drummer, I think the long remote would work better.

Thanks
Conrad

You can use the E-3 or E-1 demag or buy a new from US-Recording.
About the remote, RC-71, check the manual on page 36 showing the remote schematic.
I don't have one for RC-70, but be careful as connections inside the two can be different, hate burning your 388 up using the wrong remote.:)

AFAIK The RC-70 and RC-71 have completely different pinouts and are not interchangeable. The RC-71 is actually far more common and was even used for many TEAC tape decks in teh early 1980s.

It would be helpful if you'd be kind to share the source of your K.
(K - for knowledge as far as it can go, that is)

a side note (off topic and not so "helpful", someone here does know what I mean ;) ):

those 100-something bucks or so gadgets are really nothing more than five normally open push buttons, a pair of LEDs, a cool, genuine and thus collecable box, wires and and the DAMN fancy 12-pin connector plug.

I am attaching here the photo of the transport/button board that I saved from a 'trashed' teac-144 (saved some parts). I keep it to make the remote, when I get time. (Also one can get buttons, leds and wires from an electronics junk or from RadioShack (in case shopping give a one some sense of pleasures :) )
Here's visual:
