Jagular,

I had mentioned in my post "Caution! Bluegrass inside..." that I had spent 27 years as a pedal steel player. Well, the last three years I was in N'ville (Nipper's Corner, Old Hickory and Edmonson Pike), I played steel for Brad. He and Kelley remain close friends of mine. I had the pleasure of playing on Brad's freshman album (nominated for Album of the Year at the CMA's) and all of his demos. I was a member of good ol' AFM Local 257.

I did have to turn Brad down in 1998 to work in his road band as I'm just getting too old to be a road dog.

Small world ain't it.

BTW, very nice tune! :D :D :D

Earl

Whoa...dude...that's way . I know the Nipper's corner area well. I lived in Antioch for the first year down here before we moved to Franlin. I have that album BTW :D.

And thanks for the compliment. I think when I get 10 or 12 decent songs (hopefully better than the one's I have now as I really am still pretty much a novice) recorded I may go down and take Kelley a cake or something and hide a cd in it or something ;) :D (just kidding, I wouldn't be so crass) but as I start working my way back into the songwriting community a little bit, you never know, our paths may just cross.

Really good for that Tascam. I've got hours of 4 track (Fostex x-15... and then Tascam 424) but not of that sound quality.

Great vocals and playing. Good song. Enjoyed it.

Jagular,

Very convincing vocal performance, I must say. Very personal and passionate.
How about some extra orchestration, like strings and stuff ?? :D .

Kjam – thanks…I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Erik –Thanks, I appreciate it. On the way man. I’ve had a lot of shit going on at work and personal life the last couple of weeks. But I intend to record a click track maybe tonight (this weekend at the latest) and then start programming the drums this weekend. I hope to have drums (I don’t think there will be a lot of them in this song), acoustic guitar and scratch vocal tracked this weekend or early next week and then I’ll start building from there. This is where my obvious lack of chops & skillz is going to slow me down :D. I’m almost better off doing acoustic guitar & vocal and leaving it at that :D.

John - don't know how I missed this the first time around. I was traveling on business last week, so it must have slipped under the radar. Glad it popped up again.

Nice song. The lyrics are excellent. Not too sure I'm crazy about the melody in the bridge - particularly the part from 1:28 - 1:33. However, I'm hitting nits here.

The picking is nice, and overall the recording quality is pretty damn good for a 4-track.

I was listening to it thinking about what I would add to this, and it's a tough choice. I don't really hear much else except maybe strings. You could put drums in parts, but I don't think it needs them and it might detract (have to hear it to be sure). And, of course, some harmonies would be nice. :D :D

Excellent job. Keep 'em coming.

No sweat man... it's not like I sit back and expect everyone to make a comment on everything I post here (what the hell took you so long ;):D) j/k.

Thanks for the compliments...this really was just a quick slap it together thing. I agree with you on the drums. I'm gonna try to be real careful not to add too much. Maybe just around the bridge... haven't really worked it out yet. And yeah, there will be some harmonies in there I would expect :D.

The melody between 1:28 & 1:33 is a little...abrupt? It's cool that you mentioned it because that is the very part I struggled with in this overall very simple song. In my head I have a plan for it with full instrumentation. Will it work? I guess I won't know until I try it. If not...I'll maybe have to rewrite it a little.

Hehe... I'm getting ready to put my 424 up for sale at ebay, so I just got it out to see how well it still worked. Cleaned it up, degaussed (sp?) it and threw this down quick. Would definitely qualify as a 1.5 submission (and it shows :D). Anyway this is the next song I will be working on a full production for. I just kind of did this as a lark. I may post it as as an example on ebay of how well it works ;). Anyway, all one take, warts and all, voice not ready to go, loose guitar picking.... Guitar is combo of di & mic panned l & r, voice up the middle. I added just a little compression & verb on the puter (nothing I couldn't have done on a non-digital mixdown with the 424 ;). The old 4 trk don't sound too bad :D.

I don't really know how good the song is, but it's one of those "had to writes" because it wouldn't leave me alone. It is a tribute to my Aunt Janice. We shared a birthday and she was quite special to me and to all of my cousins. It's called "Miss Her So"

Miss Her So

I cought this thread a bit late perhaps but is the TASCAM 424 version the one still on your site ? I just d/l it and can't believe it was done on a cassette porta! Sounds great!!

Daniel

Hey Jag! Now that this thread came up again I finally could find your songs on NoWhereRadio.

Man, congrats! It's hard to say which of your songs is the best, but all of them are darn good! Your voice is amazing and your lyrics are nice too! Good job!

ROFLMAO

I spit all over my monitor when I saw this thread sneak out of the closet :D

The version of the song that is up now was not done on the Tascam. Just wanted to make that clear. I updated the song a while back after this thread died down with a version recorded with my old guitar and the SBLive Value before I got my new sound card, but still done on the DAW (computer)

I actually am going to redo this in the near future with the new guitar and soundcard.

Never did get around to doing a full production. I made a decision to spend my time writing & honing those skills and trying to get just decent sounding guitar/vocal demos for the time being. One day I will bite off a full production again though. :D

LOL thanks for the listen & compliment. Now back to cleaning my monitor :D

Bloodshark & Joro - Thanks a bunch I appreciate the nice comments. I'm still working on the songwriting skills and I am definitely learning. So that's progress :D Thanks guys.

Wow!

What a singer! I'm so glad some folks revive these older threads with this dynamite music. As a newcomer who's too damned lazy to "search" all the ump-teen-thousand threads out here, it's great to be introduced to music that's passed through in earlier times.

This tune is beautiful! Your voice is excellent. Sure would love to have you sing some of my tunes...................

Enjoyed that immensely - and will enjoy it a lot more thanks to mp3!!
~Milan

Thanks Milan!!! I appreciate the kind words. It's kind of cool to get a boost from this old blast from the past :D.

Get ready to spit again, because I've just found this thread again years later, and I love your song!

It doesn''t need anything else, IMHO. I love it just the way it is. :)

ROFL...

Wow what a bump :D

Thanks a bunch. That made my year :D

Thanks for listening

:)
