I recently tried to use my Porta One, and when I pushed play, the transport moved into the cassette, and then it stopped. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like your drive belt is broken/slipping or the flywheel is stuck...

Yes. Often times there is a linkage that is either belt or gear driven the moves the head stack into the tape (and also locks the transport door on decks with an EJECT button...). If the belt breaks while the tape is engaged you experience what you are experiencing. On my 234 I can take the cover off and manually turn the belt-driven gear/linkage to lower the headstack. If it is broken belt Tascam probably has replacements (323) 727-4840.
