I have recently bought a Tascam porta2.I am recording from a micked up amp and recording straight into the porta2.I am getting hiss (lot's of hiss).I am having to turn up the volume when listening to my recordings on a standard stereo, where the hiss seems to be more overpowering than the actual recording.
I'm sure that someone can help me out, out there!?!

Two things - do ya got Dolby on that machine, if so, make sure it's on....
2nd - what kind of mic are you using and how are you connecting it?

Thank's for your info,I was thinking about the dolby. As far as the mike is concerned,I'm not sure what mike it is(brand)as I'm at work at the moment and not able to check. The mike is capable of gigging, its not a cheapo!!As far as connections, I am plugging into the mic input's on the portastudio.
I can pretty much guess that it is the dolby though.
Thank's again.

By the way, what guitar do you play(ie;checked out your website)? Is it a Jackson.

Those pics are really old (4 years) - in the pic it's a mod'd kramer - 3 JBjr pickups....

Currently, I use an American Deluxe Strat and a Guild StarFire IV semi-acoustic...

I didn't think the 02 had any noise reduction. Anyway, how loudly are you playing, Billy. How high is your level controller on the recorder? Did you find out what kind of mic you're using?

Haven't you played with Wilco?

Adam

Cheer's Vurt,
I didn't find out the mic info, but, tried your advice and Bruce's and everything seems to be resolved.

Cheers.
