Just spotted this on eBay - is it just me, or does this thing look like its had a hard life?

Also I finally found an MSR-16 in NZ, unfortunately it was over my budget - the seller knew the market value :(

This is the very unit I recorded on at Radio One, Dunedin in November '93 -the exact same one. I've arranged to transfer the tapes from those before they send it away to the final buyer. It does mean I'm crossing over to The Dark Side and using Audition and/or Protools... :o  Hopefully the tapes aren't shedding - Ampex 456, 93 datecode.

Looks like the kept reels on there for extended periods of time. Definitely no good if they left the tape threaded that whole time...

Either they used some very bent out of shape reels of the reel tables have slipped back allowing the edges to rub. The lifters are reel worn from FFW/RW, but the head wear doesn't look that bad, except for the vertical scratches.

EXCEPT FOR THE VERTICAL SCRATCHES ON THE HEADS!

That's like trying to sell a vinyl album, "It's in great shape, except for these massive transverse scratches across the whole thing."

OK, Ampex 456 1/2" datecode 93209 sheds :(

Tape being baked, hopefully I get a good transfer (after another 2 1/2 hours drive each way) once this is done!
