Tascam MS16 Capstan!

I`m quite new to all this analogue stuff and there are things that I`m not familiar with. I`ve got a MCI JH 110 Two track and also a Tascam ms 16. I`m in the process of setting up the tascam and I pretty sure there are no technicians in the area as I live in a small beach town called Noosa Heads, Queensland in Australia so I`m doind everything by myself and I hope you guys dont get mad at me if I ask silly questions haha. Cutting a long story short I`ve noticed that the capstan wont stop spinning even when the machine is on stop mode. Is that normal? I`ve noticed this a couple of days ago but I`m not sure if it was happening before. Well Thanks for the help :D
 
Yep, that's just how it works. A lot of machines do that. I think the idea is that there's no lag whilst it gets up to speed when you press play. It's always seemed a bit silly to me.
 
it can be modified to make it stop. but that is how it comes from the factory, the same for the tascam 42 and 52. Others like the tascam 32, tsr8, stop when the tape is unthreaded and the tension roller comes down.
