How are the pre's and converters on this? Are they the same as the FW-1884 or FW-1082? And, how will the quality compare to the MOTU pre's(ultralite or 828)?

I have the its big broter and quality is very good. It does benifit from a preamp in the $1,000+ range

What DAW will you use with it?

I like the MOTU for sure.

Also depends on if you ever see yourself breaking the 10 track barrier that the Ultralite has. Since the Tascam has ADAT so it can be expanded, but you may be able to daisy chain UltraLite's...don't know.

I owned the Tascam for a while, and as far as sound was concerned, it worked great. I think the Firepod pres are a little nicer, but the Tascams were definitely useable. The problem I had with the card was stability. It wasn't often, but at seemingly random times it would have a big sync issue and not record about 1-2 sec. of stuff that was going on. I would then have to start over on that take. Not too big of a deal if its just you, but when you got clients sitting there...That was the only issue I had with it, like I said, it didn't happen alot but enough to make me get rid of it. Hope any of this helps.

I have the MOTU 828mkII and have quite very pleased with it. The CueMix console is a great feature. Well that's my 2 cents

Just out of curiousity, why are the product ratings for the FW-1804 so low in zzounds.com?

Probably low ratings from everybody with a Via FireWire chip. :D

How come few people own this?

Well...If they had the same issues that I had with it, then that would explain why. (see earlier post)
