Tascam DR680 as a live mixer - output quality?

Hi,

I'm intending to use a Tascam DR680 to record my live synth rig, and to also mix the tracks before sending the stereo output to the PA. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the quality of the outputs, and the fact that they're unbalanced rca makes me think that the d/a output might not be up to the same standard as the high-end a/d.

So I'm wondering whether it would be a good idea to send the 680's SPDIF output to an Apogee Mini-DAC, but at £700 it only makes sense to invest that much extra if it's going to make a noticeable improvement to the output quality in a live situation.

My question is - will outputting to the Apogee make any perceivable difference to the sound, or would there only be a small difference compared with the rca outs built into the recorder?

Thanks :)
