I am on a long learning curve with this DP24.. I am having the opposite problem I used to have with low end units. They always came out too hot, but it was way easier to tame them than it is to push the DP24 up. My old Boss BR-8 and Fostex MR-8 recordings are outshining my Tascam ones even after a year of trial and error. Tracks sound dull and flat no matter what I try.
I recently tried boosting the gain on the input comp, with only using trace amounts of actual comp. It sounds slightly better, but clips the onboard pre. Track and master levels still peaking at -12, but the pre is lighting up.
My Q: What is the preamp clip indicating if my levels are -12? Also, any obvious advice to make this DP24 hotter without raising rec levels?
