Ok, I am new to recording and so far I am having an extremely frustrating experience. At the moment I am having trouble with the Tascam DP-01 to computer interface. I have read the book from cover to cover (at least 3 times) and performed the procedure at least 10 times and still cannot make these two blasted machines talk to each other. What little there is for help on the internet is just a repetition of the same thing over and over which are quotations from the book. So now I need someone with extensive experience with this machine to help me out. The machine itself is really simple to operate and is much easier than any of the software I have found. Is there anyone on this forum that can help me?

Thanks

OK, we'll try to help, but you will have to give us more info! Are you trying to use the USB output of the DP-01? Are you just trying to back up your files, or send them to a DAW (if so, which one)?

Thanks for responding. I am sorry for taking so long to get back to you but I was getting discouraged. Yes I am trying to use the USB port to copy the the files to my computer and convert them to MP3 so I can put them on a CD. I have gone through the procedure in manual at least 10 times I know about he open and close part. That's what I was referring to when I said that I could only find the same repetitive information on the Internet. Now what happens is that when I open the port and plug in the USB cable Windows says that is has found new hardware and that 's about as far as it goes. I have also tried this with cable already plugged in and get the same response. When I go to Device Manager in the Control Panel, I get the yellow flag and when I right click on that it shows that the DP01 is there but I get the "device cannot start Code 10 message". I have uninstalled and reinstalled at least 10 times and still nothing. Windows is looking for a driver where there is none. I am really disappointed and frustrated by the whole thing, so I have found a work around that I can use until I can, if ever, solve this problem. I really don't understand how something so simple can be so hard to do. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you done what the manual outlines?: http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/352/dp01fxcd_eng.pdf Page 47-49. Basically, first you select the tracks you want to export on the DP-01 - by doing this you are putting them where your computer can see them, then you 'drag and drop' them into your computer. Don't worry about converting them to MP3s at this point. You want to do it all with WAV files.
Where in particular are you getting stuck?

OK, I have gone through the whole Mastering process step by step and I have gone through the whole USB connection process and still nothing. I not going to waste my time or your time with this because it's just plainly not working for me. I am going to use my work around which is working just fine for me right now. Thank you for your time mjbphotos at least you responded and I do appreciate that very much. I can certainly see why the used DP-01s are plentiful in the pawn shops right now. They are way more complicated than they need to be which is why Tascam went on to newer versions which I hope are not as complicated as this one is. Thanks again and I don't know if I am going to stay with this forum or not. I'll have to see if there is anything of value I can get from it. Again thanks for trying to help.

Ok, I'm sure we could help you if you had a little more patience. There's plenty to learn here at these forums, but you've got to take the time ...

Are you putting the DP-01 in USB mode? USB mode will allow the computer to access the HD of the DP-01 as if it was a storage device.

I think the OP is gone. One thing you have to have when learning home recording is patience. Mics, interfaces, monitors, all come next!

I was wondering if you have time to help me with my Tascam DP01? I need to start at the beginning......
I've got it plugged into a Yamaha Portable and I can't seem to get playback in my headphones. Not sure what I'm doing but I'm patient! :O)

Check out your other thread in the 'Recording Techniques' section of the forum.
