Hi,

Hope someone can help, I have a DA20mk2 that is being very picky about accepting tapes. You have to insert and eject the tapes about 12 times before it will accept them. Any ideas what could be causing this? I've had a search online for a service manual but can't seem to find one.

cheers

When is the last time you opened it up and cleaned the tape path? (don't use a Qtip on the rotary head)
Best to use a foam-tipped swab on everything.

Ahh, thought it seemed too easy - it only ended up as a temparary fix :(

I've cleaned everything except the heads with IPA (and there was a surprising amount of colouring on the tips!) but the machine is still being picky on taking tapes. It's frustrating as when it eventually takes the tape it works perfectly without a problem until you have to change the tape.

Any other ideas??

cheers

When my DA-30 behaves like yours, cleaning has always cured it. Dis you clean the pinch roller with rubber cleaner? If not, do it. Also, gently run a fingernail up and down the capstan. I bet there is a ridge of crud still there near the bottom. Clean all of that off. If that doesn't help, take it to someone who can align the transport to factory spec.

I've attemped to clean th pinch roller but not with a rubber cleaner. Is there any particular product you would suggest? I've checked and there doesn't seem to be any crud left (I did remove quite a bit!)

Try Markertek and/or Caig Labs. They should still have an available rubber cleaner/rejuvenator product
