Hello all.
I have a situation that occurred now after years of having no issue.
It concerns the fact that the tracks are armed correctly
when i raise and lower the faders, i only hear the volume raise and lower.
I dont see the changes in the screen.
I am able to premaster. I need to do it by ear.
Incidentaly, the individual tracks, when i lower and raise the faders, are reflected in the mainscreen.
It is very weird. Ive gone back to earlier mixes that i know worked correctly but now the levels
are just not individually reflected.
Please can someone advise?
Thank you

I am not sure I truley understand. Is it a source you "are recording" or is it a source you "have recorded"?

Have you altered your monitoring set up? If I remember rightly you can set things up so that you "see" the level on the lcd monitor but can use the fader to adjust the monitoring level, it does not alter the alter whats displayed on the lcd. I could be getting myself confused as this is what the Neo does.

HTH a little

Thank you for responding Zeekle.
The weirdness or what I think is, happens after the recording process. I have no problem when I record. The faders work just fine and I can see the levels both on the individual tracks and the main.
But what is going on is after the recording.
I can not control the view on the levels though I can hear the individual tracks correspond to the faders.
I know that this never has happened. I do not think I am doing anything differently as I have been the last ten years.
Well there it is. Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks, UriahB

Once you record something, it's "view" will always be the same. The meters are showing you the level of the recorded signal. You can turn the fader all the way down and you'll still see the levels bouncing because it has nothing to do with the fader. It would affect the view on the stereo master, though.

Rami - Thats what I was trying to say... but you've put it much more eloquently. :)

HI RAMI, ZEEKLE. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT I HAVE BEEN MISTAKEN ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL FADERS BUT AGAIN I CAN ALMOST SWEAR THAT THE LEVELS DID VARY WITH MOVEMENT OF THE FADERS.
IN ANY CAE, AS YOU MENTIONED, THEY ARE REFLECTED ON THE STEREO MASTER AND I CAN HEAR
THE TRACKS SO AS THEY SAY, CE LA VI OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT. WILL RETURN TO MY 788 WITH FULL CONFIDENCE AGAIN
ALL THE BEST, UriahB

(I'm going to piggyback onto this thread, since my question is related. Hopefully y'all can help me out.)

I use a Tascam 2488 neo, similar to the 788. I understand the answers given - the track levels displayed are pre-fader.

In my opinion, post-fader levels would be far more useful than pre-fader levels, in terms of creating a mix. With post-fader levels, you could actually compare the level of one track to another.

But clearly this isn't possible on my Tascam. Does this present any issues for anybody besides me? I'm well aware of the motto, "use your ears". But if that's the case, then why even bother to show levels at all?
