I have a question. I would have asked about it in the TASCAM forum but it will not work from my computer. I just purchased my third TASCAM 688 from e-bay, the last two died in shipping. I want to take the taped music from the tascam and burn it onto a cd. Straight out. No big production, go buy this thing for $2,000.00 etc. Very virginish on recording talk and knowledge. I know how to run the TASCAM but I want to dump onto CD. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time...

Straight to CD?

Just get a stand alone CD recorder deck, hook it up to the stereo main outs of the 688, set levels, hit record and you're done! :)

There are pro units that use the cheaper data Cd's for normal computers and then there are home use, consumer CD recorders that require a more expensive blank CD-R media called "CD-R Music".

The home units cost far less then the pro ones do so, depending on the amount of discs you want to make, 10's vs, 1000's, it will make the decision easier as to which one to get.

Cheers! :)

Thank you for the input, ho ho, its off to work I's go...Mate

I've got a 488mkii which I think is similar to the 688, minus all the midi stuff. I've also got a stand alone cd recorder. I just run the outputs from the 488 like GFM said, into the analog inputs on the cd recorder. Pretty low tech, but it works!

Connect the main mixdown outputs to the 'puter soundcard's line in,...

using an RCA-to-1/8" stereo Y-cable adapter. You need software that records to stereo wav files and software that creates the audio cd from the wav files, onto CDr media.

This method works for me, and it's nothing like rocket science. ;)

Any recomendations for standalone CD recorders for mixing down from a Tascam 688. I'm mixing live from the unit as opposed to dumping into the computer for a mix. Any particular brands that are best suited for this for a reasonable price? Aiwa, Tascam, Pioneer, Sony, Marantz? I look forward to your guru-esque knowledge.

I use a Pioneer PDR-555 RW...really smooth A/D converters. Great sound for a CD.

I don't know if they still make that one? Ir was around 600 bucks when I bought mine back in the late 90's.

Cheers! :)

thanks!

I'll keep a look out for one. If anyone else has any reccomendations, I'd love to hear them.
