Tascam 688 – battery inside?

I heard that this machine has a battery, is is true and if so, if it died would it make the machine non-functional? Also, I just recieved on via UPS and it has no power what so ever. The owner said it worked just fine before he shipped it. UPS said they see no damage and neither did I. So I am wondering what caused this machine to die between California and Wisconsin???? Is there a fuse that might have blown..Please help me.......

The battery sustains all the "scene memory" settings. If the internal battery was dead, I don't think it would cause the whole 688 to die.

If the 688 won't come on, it seems to indicate the power module.

The 688's power module may have a fuse in it, although I've not opened one up to inspect it.

That's just a few ideas, off the cuff.
