Hello there.

I recently bought a tascam 688 for 200pounds and there is little to no info on the net anymore! The overload light is permanently lit on channel 7. I can hear what has been recorded coming through distorted and faint in the background. The channel does seem to work when getting a level. Is there a way of re-setting the overload light on the machine? I realise this maybe a few years too late but i am getting desperate!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. My email is tuthingum@yahoo.com

Thanks

There is no "reset". The light remaining constantly lit indicates circuit failure. There's a former TEAC/Tascam technician posting as Skywavebe on tapeheads.net who may be able to help you.

Thats amazing thankyou, everybody has been really helpful. I will look into that technician!

Are you sure you don't have an accidental feedback loop somewhere? Also, Teac parts in California, should be able to supply you with a manual and quite possibly a service manual as well. I've not contacted them in quite some time, but from what I've read here, telephone gets a better response than email. I'm assuming you are in the UK.

AFAIK Skywavebe is located somewhere in the middle USA. He's a frequent poster over there and a treasure trove of information. There is also a guy in Ireland, I bought a MSR-16 head stack from who may be able to help. (At least he's a bit closer) I'm pretty sure he is a Teac factory service type as well. If you need, I can try and look up his info. jpmorris on this forum may also be able to point you in the right direction of a tech closer to you.

Thats great thankyou! i am in the uk, it isnt easy to find someone to fix this thing! Really impressed with all the help and info i have received here. I have the mannual but it says nothing about these issues. I managed to get the guy to refund me 50 pounds for the machine (now cost me £150) and i am happy with that. Would be great to get all 8 tracks up and running though, have always wanted one of these machines and want to record drums with it.

Thanks again, any info would be much appreciated!
