Ok, I JUST got a tascam 488 off ebay.... and I started recording... but everytime I take the tape and play it in a tape player other than the one on the machine the pitch is comlpetely changed!
How do I change this...???

Well... First of all: does the other tape player run at 3 and 3/4 Inches Per Second?

The tape you use for the 8 track is a type II high bias tape. The 8 track records on both sides of the tape. When you play it in a standard tape player, it is only read on one side of the tape.

Thats true Switchgrass but not why the pitch changes.

The 488 only records and plays at one speed which is faster than any standard stereo or tape deck will play at.

This gives the 488 better recording quality because the faster the tape speed, the better the recording.......but the more tape is used and is one reason it costs more to record better.

You need to mix down your 488 recordings to a standard speed 2 track tape deck in order to be able to hear it correctly.

You connect the line out jacks on the back of your 488 to a stereo tape/cassette/dat/cd/minidisk recorder, set the stereo deck to record and then hit play on the 488.
