Running a bench test on my tascam 48-ob.

I have almost no signal coming out of xlr outputs. rca outputs are fine. ran a continuity test on all the xlr jacks and wires in the deck. everything checks out good. my mixer and cables are all hot on pin 2. so i am thinking the deck is pin 3 hot. i don't have a manual yet so i have zero documentation to support my theory.

can anybody help me out on this?

also if it is wired to pin 3 hot, am I correct in thinking that this would cause almost zero signal to come out of xlr outputs when monitoring it with pin 2 hot gear?

Thanks guys!!

The 48 should be pin 3 hot. Almost all later model TASCAM's are wired that way. Don't ask me why?

Try re-soldering one end of one of your cables, reversing pins 2 & 3 to see if that fixes the problem. Also check to make sure if your model has any switches on the rear apron turning off the balanced outputs. Some variations of the 48 had this feature.

The signal will be 180° out of phase which might cause a loss in signal strength but, it shouldn't kill it completely?

Cheers! :)

True. Tascam (at least my Tascam stuff) is pin 3 hot. Everything else seems to be pin 2 hot.

I had this issue with my otari's and I re-soldiered all of the cables. If you do this, make sure you re-soldier the end that is connected to the tascam, or it might not work. If the destination equipment is unbalanced it would kill it completely.
