Hello, I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with a tape speed problem on my new (old) 414MK2.

I have some old 4-track tapes I want to mix down, but they were recorded at normal speed, so run too fast on the Tascam - even with the pitch at min.

I have opened it up and turned the resistor down (if that's the tech term) but it is still too fast. My next pla is to put an inline resistor in just before the motor, but this has four wires going into the motor, so don't know which ones to cut the new resistor into.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

414's run at 3-3/4 ips speed.
Don't destroy your mkII by messing around with the electronics. Find/borrow/buy a Tascam cassette portastudio deck that will run at 1-7/8 (normal) or 3-3/4 ips speed (424, 424mkII or III) & mix your old tapes. Better yet, if you have access to a computer and recording interface that will record at least 4 individual channels at once, copy over the old tape tracks to the computer as 4 tracks of .wav/.aiffs and mix ITB. You then have your tracks digitally backed up, and then you can decide to archive, reuse or toss your old cassette master tapes.
