I have a Tascam 388, and I'm using headphones to monitor myself (stereo) and to listen to playback.

However, I'm only getting sound out of the right ear (headphones test ok). I am seeing that I am getting and have sound on the L and R channel. Of course, no way to confirm this without actually hearing it.

Panning the monitor pan to the L will kill 100% of the sound coming from headphones. I've followed all the steps in the manual, and I'm pretty darn sure I've tried everything. Even playing and recording in Mono. Still no dice.

I read in the manual that plugging mono headphones into the headphone monitor jacks will harm them - so perhaps the PO did this?

Also, I don't have powered monitors - about all I could hook up to test the outputs is a home stereo to test.

Thanks for any help.

Hmmm. Seems like you're going to need to hook up the L/R main outs to something to test further. Do you have a stereo? An amp that you could hook up one and then the other? You'll need to do this to see if the whole side is out or just the headphone jack. Also, is this when monitoring live or during play back? Used to own one of these and they are alot of fun.

Have you tried a different pair of headphones yet? If you are using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter for your headphones, have you tried switching that piece out?

Hook it up to a stereo or something and test the regular outputs... likely it is a bad headphone jack or just dirty - a little deoxit might fix you right up.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I finally hooked the stereo up - the headphones, 1/4 adapter all worked. Plugging into the rear monitors, I do have both channels - I suspect the headphone jacks are bad, which is a shame. Thanks again.

no worries, at least it is a minor overall issue... likely if may just be the jack itself, might be an easy fix if you are handy with a soldering iron.
