Tascam 388 Playback,Fwd,Rwd issue. Please Help!

Hey Guys, Gotta Tascam 388 here. Thing was working great up until a few months ago. It's in amazing condition, so I can't see that it has had too much use. I replaced the capstan with a fresh belt about 5 months ago. Pinch roller is clean and plush as a whistle. Capstan does spin, so the belts good still. Here's what's happening.... Press play: Plays for about 3-4 seconds and stops. Press Rwd: Reels act they are going to engage and stop. Sometimes nothing at all, depending on how many times I tried pressing the button, consecutively. Same with Ffwd. I replaced the fuses and adjusted the servo dealios and nothing helped. I'm thinking it's something with the reels,...Brakes,motors..?? Dont know...Scratching my head here.... Any suggestions?

Sounds like it thinks its does not have tape threaded. It would shut down like that if it ran the tape off the end of the reel, so whatever sensors that need to be satisfied to convince it tape is loaded are not engaging. ???

Not in my studio or looking at the manual....just thinking.
