I recently bought a used Tascam 34 reel to reel. I've never used this model before (I've owned a couple of 3440's over the years). My problem/question is with the reel mount (for want of the proper term). When I try to put a reel on (7 or 10", with or without a hub adapter) it hits the front of the chasis. Was there a spacer that came with this model that kept the reel further out from the chasis so it didn't scrape against the front of the unit? Can't find any info on the internet. Maybe this is why I picked it up so cheap!
Thanks in advance for any input.

did you have it shipped to you? Alot of times the hub will get pushed in further than its supposed to be. I believe you can access the set screw. Are both hubs doing this?

Both hubs are doing this. I bought it here in KC so it was not shipped. I had it pulled apart to replace the capstan belt but did not notice the problem until I had it ready to test with reels...hence, I am not 100% sure it was like this when I got it or if I did something whilst putting it back together.

You could try raising the height of the reel tables internally, as mentioned, or just use a piece of cardboard cut into a circle to fit between the reel table and the hub adapters.

Cheers! :)

I ended up pulling it apart and raising the reel tables...works like a...well...like a Tascam...all systems go! Thanks for the help guys.
