HI, i've been working for a few days on a tascam 32, so i am coming here for help. The deck works fine in general, but when i am in fast forward as the take up reel becomes fatter and about 3/4 full it begins to slow down, like the motor not being able to cope up. So i ruled out the following things:
1. Sticky shed tape and clean tape path - all done, this is new RMGI tape and transport is very clean.
2. Motor cleaning inside - took the motor out, cleaned the commutator as described in a step-by-step guide in these forums.
3. Checked brakes on the supply reel (so it is not slowing down the winding of the take up reel during FF). And they are fine, i also manually push free the brake lever during FF, no change
So, right now i am looking at the back tension, maybe the supply reel is putting too much resistance. If i move the supply reel during FF it helps and the left motor starts to pickup speed, so it maybe the back tension.
According to the service manual, it says that the back tension can't be adjusted. In some old forums someone mentions that people change resistors to achieve this - is that right ? anyone knows which ones ? how else can i adjust back tension ?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
