Long time no post. I hope everyone is well!
Anyhow, some friends of mine have a Tascam 25-2 That has a couple issues:
1) (the serious one) the lifters will not disengage when the machine is in play. *edit: fixed--exercising the Edit switch got the lifters to disengage.
2) (less serious) the varispeed isn't working.
If anyone here has any experience with this machine or its close relatives, the Ampex ATR 700 and the Teac 7300, it would great if you could offer up a suggestion for where to start troubleshooting.
The varispeed prob was evident from the moment they bought it, but the lifter thing is new. I calibrated the machine for them soon after they acquired it and I was pleasantly surprised how sweet it sounded.
