Hi all! This is my first post to a forum of any kind! Anyway here's the nitty gritty..I recently replaced all rubber parts on my beat up Tascam 244 and it worked (ff rw play zero return)...here's the strange thing when I try to record I get good signal through the phones and then I move the record function selector to the right to "4ch rec" at which point the red record light blinks (as expected) but when I push record/play buttons the light continues blinking and nothing is recorded..? The button itself feels fine and I've tried pushing really hard to no avail. So option B (here's whats really wierd)...I try to move the "record function" switch over to the left to "sync" and the whole unit shuts down!! All VU lights go out, none of the tape controls work (no ff, rw, play etc..) nothing...it's like it shorts out the machine..although the motor does still run nothing functions..? I looked around to see what it would take to get that switch out and yikes!! I'm not even sure that's what I should do..any thoughts/ideas?

If you're not experienced with DIY electronic repairs, it would be prudent to seek out a local repair shop who has experience with tascam analog gear and get an estimate on how much it would cost to trouble-shoot the short in the unit.

Ordinarily, if it just won't engage into the record mode, I would first ensure that I was using a type II cassette that didn't have the record safety tabs broken off from the top of the cassette casing. Are you using old tape or brand new stuff?

Cheers! :)
