Tascam 16X08 - Inputs at -10dB or +4dB for good preamps?

After another long layoff I'm going to start recording again. I have some decent new preamps and I'd like to know whether I should set my Tascam input levels to -10dB or +4dB for them. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check the manual for the preamp that you plan to use. Most consumer grade line level devices are unbalanced -10db. Professional gear is often +4dB and usually balanced. Something like an ART MPAII has the option to go both ways. An OctoPre will need to be +4dB as it can output as much as +16dB.
