Hi There

Im a totally newbie at this and Ive got my hands on a Tascam 133 today ( Skip find :) ) and its a nice bit of retro kit, given it a good clean and it seems to be in working order, however id like to give it a whirl , does anyone have any ideas on how this thing operates ?! what kind of cassettes does this take ? will it take a standard cassette or does it require a specailised one ?

Ive tried the standard cassette route but only got as far as forwarding and rewinding but it wont play the cassettee it just seems to Jam , however when the cassette is removed it will work.

Can anyone help ?

DAT .... I have answered my own question ... now to find it a loving home.

Not entirely sure, but it sounds like there might be a belt slipping when you have the cassette in place. That is, the play belt as stretched and loose, but still has enough "grip" to turn the reel center 'wheels'. However, inserting the cassette adds resistance to these wheels which the belt is not able to overcome so it slips and the reels stay motionless. If this is the case, it will need to have the belts replaced (which not really a bad idea anyway on an old deck) -something you can do yourself if you're a bit handy.

Also, regarding tape types, the heads on that machine are made to take cassettes with Type II/High Bias tape. While other tapes might "work", I'd stick to that formulation as the others won't be great for the heads.

Hope that helps some...

That seems to be the case , and i will look into it , Thankyou for the info ... i may of found a new hobby :D

WOW ive never seen so many wires in my life !!

The belt seems to have become tangled so im attempting to work out where it all connects and put it back into position.

Cool bananas, looks like you have your culprit!

The belt has snapped probably due to age , having looked at it it would'nt try to fit the belt myself , rather take it to someone i can point a finger at .

Thanks for your help :)
