Tape compatibility

I just purchased a Tascam portastudio 414 to remaster some old tapes. When I play the old tapes, they are sped up twice the speed. The old tapes were recorded on a Tascam Mini porta 2. I have a sinking feeling that the tape speed playback is not compatible. I have played around with Pitch Control, and this does not help. There isn't a tape speed function either. Any ideas, or am I screwed?

Yeah...Looks like your gonna need a deck that plays back at high speed.

Come to think of it,your gonna need one that plays back at regular speed.

As I recall Cassette PortaStudios recorded at double speed......This was for audio fidelity....when it was mixed down it would be mixed at regular speed.....

I'm guessing, you are playing an unmixed Master....
