Complete newbie wanting to upgrade recorded sound quality, setup, ability to monitor better.

Currently use the following to record acoustic guitar, classical guitar, electric guitars, electric bass, bongos, etc. No voice.

Current equipment is:
SM57, SM58, Behringer UB502 mixer, into audiophile 2496.
Using JBL 2600 "hifi" speakers connectedt to an old radio shack receiver

Local music place has Tannoy Reveal Actives on sale. Aprpeciate feedback on these monitors to replace what i'm currently using. Also, the audiophile card has RCA output jacks, do they plug directly into the Reveal Active monitors with RCA connectors or some other cabling?

thx

connections are generally 1/4" or XLR
Tannoy makes a good monitor

I've had the Active Reveals for about 4 years now (and they have probably been powered on for a good part of that time period!) The sound is really good, I get good mixes out of them (i.e. they translate well to other systems) and they are good for just listening to tunes (I have my PC hooked up to them so all my PC sounds go through them). You might want to think about hooking the audiophile outs into your mixer (a spare stereo line channel, or tape input) and then route the outs (either main or monitors) of your mixer to the Tannoys. This way you can easily control the volume with the mixer, rather than via SW. I have a Delta 44, and I plug Out 1/2 into a channel on my Mackie mixer, and then go MAIN out (XLR) into the Tannoys (XLR as well). The Monitor bus on my mixer is used for headphones. That way I can easily mute the speakers (by bringing the master fader to 0) but still have the signal going to my headphone for tracking. Good luck!

Gordone,

That's exactly what i wanted to do but didnt know that until your reply! :-)
Great info and great forums!
