I'm new to this list and new to recording in general, but nonetheless I've secured myself a copy of Cubase VST and plan on layin' down some tracks. I need to buy a soundcard to work with (something in the $300 to $450 range). I've been reading some Electronic Musician and I've been checking MF for prices. I'm finding myself fairly swampt with....well, options, i guess. Should I get a mixer (digital?)? The Tascam TD1000 looks good for the money. Or should I just plug straight into the soundcard and mix w/ cubase? If I'm using a DAW does that imply that I'm using the hard disc to record, or do I also need to invest in ADAT, DA38, etc?
Some guidance would be much appreciated.
