I've heard that you need to let tubes "warm up" to get the best possible sound..you know, like in tube guitar amps. My question is, with t-racks, do you have to let those little tubes on the screen warm up before you start mastering?
 
Yeah you do, but you can speed up the waiting time by sticking your DAW in a microwave oven on hi for about 10 minutes. Yeah, about 10 minutes oughta do it.:eek:
 
Damnit zip! You beat me to it!!! :)

I put my computer in the over to heat up the tubes in T-Racks. I find the slower rate of heat to benefit the "melting" process much better. More controlled. :D

True...so true...

...but doesn't it really depend on the AGE of the tubes in T-racks?

The slower rate of heat transfer may very well provide a benefit for older tubes but I believe everyone realizes the needed benefit of FAST heat transfer with new ones...

The faster heat transfer will accelerate the break-in period required to reduce those nasty unwanted sonic artifacts generated by a new set of tubes!

Get yer new t-racks and fire that PC up to about 450 to really break em in!! :D

I've gotten the best analog response by running t-racks on a win emulator running on my Amiga. Anything newer sounds too digital.

I also use a gray scale monitor and that really helps too.

Well it looks like you dithered the word truncated Zip, I noticed an added A. (trunAcated) the original word is truncated...tsk tsk indeed, if you were good at mastering you would have been able to hide that extra letter without the average reader noticing it.

You really oughta use the microwave to stay in the digital domain. Fewer A/D conversions that way.

A word of caution!!!!

Be extra careful when attempting to change the tubes in T-Racks. It looks easy enough but I actually ruined a nice monitor trying to get them out and still had no luck.:eek:

I've found that the chinese 12ax7's give much better warmth than those harsh Mullard's and mushy Telefunkens. Sure was a bitch finding the proper 9pin to 50pin SCSI adapter though. :eek:
