Sytek Sucks

Plush at Gearslutz has good things to say about Sytek pres..hes been in the classical business for many many years, and has won countless awards(just won a gramophone award this year). If he says they are decent..well, they probably are. He doesnt mince words, and will say right away if something sucks ass.

That's the wonderful thing about audio. You can get a very well respected guy saying one thing, and then go find another well respected guy who will say just the opposite.

So while we all have folks we admire and trust, it still comes down to personal experience before you can make any meaningful pronouncements.

Now me - I'm not well respected by anyone. I had a Sytek four channel preamp many years ago. I sold it after a year or two. It worked fine - it just wasn't as transparent as my clean preamps, and didn't seem to add anything desireable like my colored ones. It just was kind of beige.

Now some people may love beige. Or maybe they just hear things a lot better than I do. But for me, the Sytek wasn't a good fit. And any endorsement from (insert favorite god of audio here) probably won't make me want to run out and buy another one.
