I know there are a few of you on here that have the 4 channel Sytek... how is it working out for you? Compared to your other pre's? I think I'm leaning towards it for my filler pre's instead of the MP-20. Sounds like a good buy all the way around. Even Fletcher said it doesnt suck, and almost everything sucks to him, including the MP-20.
Does yours have the Burr Browns or Xformers in it? Compare the 2...
Peace,
Paul

no burr brown chips or transformers on mine, unfortunately.

It sounds fabulous though. I really love the sound. It has THE sheen that sounds so good.

Now, I just (ten minutes ago) finished comparing it to my symetrix 528, and using an sm58 as source, I could not tell a difference(with all processes on the 528 turned off), except that the symetrix had a hair more bass.

This speaks well for the symetrix, as it can be had for less than $250 on ebay.

On a large D condenser, I preferred the sound of the sytek, cos as I said, it has this sheen to it that is very powerful.

I was going to ask you if you wanted to trade your neumann mic for the sytek, but I can't anymore. THe sound is the exact sound I am looking for for great vocals(i know, it falls short of the neves et all, but it still the sound that I want).

I cant see you ever regretting its purchase

Sytek will install the Burrs in two channels for $80, but the jensen xformers if you were to want one on a channel is $150, I think.

Great thread!
I've been looking into getting the Sytek unit as well. I would be using it mostly as a secondary unit for recording drums and the like.
I'm considering a Vintech "Neve" for my "character" input module.

I've been looking at the Sytek and am broken between that and the Langevin Dual mono. I'm also looking to the Vintech for my dirty stuff, but maybe, just maybe, a Phoenix audio with the EQ included (its a dual channel Neve 1073 copy... fat)

I've heard conflicting comments on the Langevin DVC-not here though.
I DO hear consistent raves on the Sytek and the Vintech neve modules.

I think that you(we) might have the basses covered with the real clean channels of the Sytek and the grit of the old Neve channels. Especially if you go with the Burr Brown transformers on one or more channels of the Sytek.

The only question remains is this:
Who's gonna be the guinnea pig and order theirs first?

I can't until October!

Let me know how you like it. What other preamps do you have?

yes theres a very good reason you got your pre for the price you did anyway anyone wanting one you have all be told what to do now anyway goodluck all

Sytek

Trebles could you help me out here Im not sure what you are saying.

I also have older mackie mixer and Behringer mic2200 and symetrix sx302

Sytek

I bout one on ebay for around 750.00 with the Burr Brown mod on ch 3 and 4. I like the unit very much and use it on almost every recording we've done so far.

The Brurr brown mod does cut the high end and make those chanels warmer and darker.

Frankly, I like ch 1 and 2 for there very present nature.

They are bulit well and have never caused any trouble or malfunctioned. I also like how simple they are. One knob - turn it till it sounds good...

Hope this helps.

I have one and I love it. Sounds great on everything. Actually I'm about to get a second, then I'm going to check out some OSA pre's to help fill out the other 8 inputs I need quality pre's on. The Syteks are a great buy hands down.
