i am recording on a PC w/ a Santa Cruz, using PA9 and my internal synth.

i was wondering about Sysex. say i have all my tracks running off the standard GM system, but i want to run one track using the Roland GS dump that came with the program.how would i set up my sysex program.

Hi Rock Star :)

Reading your post, I don't think you need to set sysex. In most case, you don't need to send Sysex to use particular device. Changing bank / program can be done in track setting on the left field. Cakewalk's "Roland GS dump" is actualy nothing but lines of message sent to Roland GS compatible device, to reset it's internal setting following GS standard. IOW, if you don't have Roland GS compatible device, then it means nothing.

Or maybe I didn't get you clear :o

but before, i got different sounds somehow by setting the first sysex command to say, XG, and then setting the track to Roland XG, and then it gives me different drumkits and different synth instruments. can i run GM and GS, or say XG, in the same arrangement? i posted on this before, but i still wasn't that clear on it when i stopped.

I'm not really sure what you are trying to do here. If your internal synth supports GM, GS, or XG (Which is actually Yamaha's protocol), you should be able to freely select between them without using sysex. As far as whether or not you can use any combination of the protocols simultaneously, probably not, but check with your documentation. If you want to use different protocols in the same song, and hardware doesn't support it, simply render all your GM to audio, then GS, then XG, etc.
