SYSEX dumps into Cubase

Howdy,
I didn't know if I should post this here or in the MIDI forum, but what the heck. I am kinda new with all of this MIDI stuff, so please be gentle. What I want to do is be able to control my synth program changes, patch names, etc. from within Cubase. To the best of my understanding, for this to be possible, I have to do a SYSEX dump from each synth/sound module into Cubase. Okay, I have no clue how to do that yet, but I am sure the manuals will explain the process for each piece. Below is the gear in question, if any of you have experience doing what I want to do with the gear below, and you know some tips to make this easier on my MIDI challenged brain, please offer your wisdom.

Emu Proteus, Planet Phatt, Orbit
Roland PMA-5
Korg Triton Rack
Boss DR-770

I am using MOTU micro express (4 in X 6 out)

My main question: Once I have completed a SYSEX dump from one of the modules, I do not have to leave that module’s MIDI out connected to my MOTU, right? I mean, if I am not using that piece to send any more MIDI messages. The program control from Cubase will still operate the modules properly with only MIDI in connected on the module, correct?

That's right. The module only needs MIDI in. It's not like a network or modem connection where it needs to be bidirectional. When a MIDI device sends out a MIDI message there is no confirmation that needs to come back.

Also, note that if all you want to do is control patch changes from within Cubase, you don't need to do SYSEX dumps from the modules. You can do that by using a patch name script. The reason you'd want to do the SYSEX dumps, though, is if you tend to use more patches than will fit into a module's memory. Then you'd need to be swaping patches for different songs and SYSEX dumping makes more sense.

Okay, I was able to use some patch name scripts, but it is not changing to the correct patches on the one module I hooked up (Triton), though it is functional to an extent. Something I will have to work on, but at least that first obstacle is behind me. Thanks again!
