hello all,
I have a small recording studio with my friends. We have newer low-grade Yamaha Keyboard, and an Alesis SR-16. I want to buy a sound/synth module and a drum module for each. Will this work? By using the midi ins and outs?
Also, on the drum machine, could I buy one of those elctronic snare pads if it has midi ports, and hook that into the Alesis as well? And I found this Roland TD-20 on eBay, its actually a reciever or whatever for a drumset of pads. But can I use this with the Alesis, and use the Alesis as the pads with midi?
Thanks
Chris

I'm so not the person to be talking about midi, but I found that the best bang for the buck for digital drums is to just pick up an Alesis D4 or DM5, or a Yamaha TMX off ebay for $100-$200, then either use a Yamaha DD-50 or DD-50 ($70-150) off ebay as a controller (via midi), or just do like I'm doing, and build a trigger set-up on a piece of wood using mousepads, coffee can lids, piezo speakers, and some RCA or 1/4" jacks. I mean, what can you do with one pad going into an SR-16, record one drum at a time? - that'll take forever!

I'm sure you could use the keyboard or the sr-16 to pound out the drum notes, but that usually results in a not-so-realistic feel, thus the need for a trigger set up you can beat on with real drum sticks.

On another note, if you're wanting the module more for sounds, I have a PSR-E303 that has what I believe to be a crapload of sounds and and SR-16 ain't too bad either.

were doing rap beats, and my partner wanted to be able to do short rolls, but its next to impossible on a beat machine.
That is the reason for the drum pad.
When we start to record rock and metal and other stuff, we'll bring in a drum set and mic it.
