I am trying to sync my Fostex Model 80 tape recorder with the digital *audio* recordings on Logic, using the M80 as master.
Is this possible ??
I know I can sync the tape with the *MIDI* recordings, using SMPTE-to-MTC converter, or FSK-to-MTC converter.
I was able to sync the tape with a FSK-to-MTC converter I got,
but how do I sync the digital AUDIO to the tape ??
Is this at all possible ? remember, the tape recorder/player tends to run at (very) slighly different speed on each "take" so it cannot be 100% syncronized with a wave file unless the digital wave file player (in this case, Logic) can stretch and compress it dynamically to match the tape speed which analogly changes all the time by the very fraction of a second...
Midi could chase the tape with no problem because it is tempo based and can dynamically be tempo-changed synchronizing itsleft to the speed of the tape.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about RUNNING the tape at a different speed, but the natural behaviour of a tape player's motor that is analog and is not playing constantly at the 100% exact speed, preventing the played digital audio wave file from being 100% in perfect sync to it.
I know that with some other recorders (such as Fostex R8) you can use the analog recorder as a transport and the DAW as a master, like on the R8 you can use Fostex MTC-1 to control the speed of the tape motor to keep it syncronize with the DAW.
I think my M80 doesn't have this function does it ?
So what are the other option to achieve this ? is there any option on Logic to control speed changes on audio and keep syncronize with the midi clock ? Any other idea ? Thanks !
