Syncing 2 Boss DAW's

I upgraded my BR-1180 to BR-1600 & was intending to sell the BR-1180 but if I could sync both together & use as a singe 24-track DAW I would hold onto it. Anyone know the best way to do this? Should I use digital cable to connect both to each other? Any advice approciated as I'm new enough to the game..
 
Hey there Cellar_door, I've used a BR8 and a BR1180 synched to Boss drum machine ~ no problems. I currently have a BR1600CD but havent needed to use its sync function.
I expect you can sync the 1180 and the 1600 but you would end up with a stereo mix from each machine that would have to go into something else. You cant take individual tracks out.
You could take a stereo mix from the 1180 into a pair of your BR1600 inputs but it seems like a messy way of doing things.
I havent tried using the digital outputs so am not sure how that would work.
If you've got songs on your 1180 that you want to work on in the 1600, the BR1600CD version 2 can read 1180 files so you could save the song data from the 1180 onto a CDR and load it into the 1600 and if you need more tracks perhaps bounce some together. There are plenty of virtual tracks to experiment with. :)
If you desperately need more tracks maybe look at something from the Roland VS series.

I already transferred material from 1180 to 1600 via cd but there was a slight delay in time, so I'll try the midi cable option fella, cheers
 
I'm interested to hear how you get on with your 1600.
Post up a thread for any tips, techniques or tricks you use. It's good to hear another users ideas and experiences.
I'm working on my own so the loops,drum machine and bass machine are really usefull. I've also got hold of some of the M-Audio Pro Sessions drum loop disks. They've got some really good sample loops in a variety of styles. I've been finding the 'scene' function really useful at mixdown ~ it's great to be able to programme changes for track volumes, panning, eq, delay, reverb, compression etc.
I havent got a handle on mastering yet but I've found the mastering presets to be good anyway so aside from setting the occasional fade-in or fade-out I havent ventured into editing the mastering settings. Regards
 
Hey Frambo you mentioned that you could take material from BR-1180 to BR-1600. How do you do this? now that I'm using BR-1600 completely I want to remove all old material from BR-1180 & sell it.
Do you have to copy each recorded track of each song to an individual cd & then load each cd to BR-1600, or can you copy all individual tracks from a song onto one cd & then load to BR-1600? Would the tracks then load individually or as a stereo pair?
Advice appreciated..

As I understand it the BR1600cd Ver 2 will read back up data from the 1180 so put your 1180 backup CDR into the 1600 and load it. Presumably whatever song data is backed up from the 1180 will load into the 1600, whether its one song or more.

I'm not sure about individual tracks since when you back up the song it backs up all the data relating to the song. I do this in two stages for each song ~ 1 disk backs up the audio data and another disk backs up all the arrangement, effects etc data.

Maybe you can save tracks from the 1180 onto CDR as a wav file then load into 1600 ~ I'm not sure.

Also, I read a discussion post on takeforum about syncing 2 BR1600's so I would expect you could sync an 1180 and a 1600 and maybe when you come to mix down, take your stereo line out mix of the 1180 into a stereo track of the 1600 to mix into the 1600 tracks
 
although a little slow, it works fine & the BR1600 asigns each track to its correct place with effects etc too via CDR transfer.
