OK guys. I haven't heard much here on this pre. The 528e is the new model, about $499 and the old 428 sell for about $150 on ebay. Here a description of the unit

"The 528 includes five functions: Mic Preamp (with phantom power), De-Esser, Downward Expander, Compressor/Limiter, and Parametric EQ. The De-Esser, the dynamics processor (expander/compressor/limiter), and the Parametric EQ/notch filter may be individually bypassed with front panel switches"

Sounds just like the DBX and Focusrite Plat. and even the Behrenger (gee I bet they came up the desgin all by themselves)

Anyway, has anyone had any experence with these. I've heard in general that Symetrix products are good.
What can you tell me?
Thanks

Very useful and under-rated. Outstanding value for the dollar. Try and get a hold of one of the older models on ebay if you can. Send it to Jim Williams at Audio Upgrades (www.audioupgrades.com), and for a very reasonable price, he can work his magic and turn it in to a close-to-world-class channel strip for you.

i have a couple symetrix boxes, and i like them all.

but i would buy used... they are undervalued on the used market cause they dont have any advertising. they have very decent sounding mic pres and compressors, not exciting, but not bad.

they are built well and last for a long time... their products probably wont blow you away, but i think you will be happy with them.

Thanks for the info. I checked the audioupgrades site. Looks cool. I may give that a try.

I would (and have) take a symetrix unit of any kind over behringer or any other of the basement budget processors any day....they are rugged, they sound fine, look at a majority of your live PA guys and theyve got a LOT of symetrix in the rack....they are NOT neve...they are not Focusrite red....but they are cheap and quality...any of their units...especially the compressors.

zbert,

I bought a 528E about a month ago, based on recommendations from members of this forum.

I do not have a lot of sound engineering experience, but have become quite familiar with the 528E. If you have specific questions, I might be able to answer them.
