Hi - I'm not new but not a power user like many here. I've been using an old version of Cakewalk for the ease of work flow & now looking at Sonar & Reaper...

When someone changes DAWs - that's a major step - & unless you stay with the same company, you wouldn't have access to all your recordings in the old DAW. How do others handle that? I love to go back & remix old stuff. Thanks.

Hi Paresh!
I see two options - you can keep your old DAW just in case OR export wav files and import them to your new DAW. I know that's a LOT of work, but I don't think Reaper can open Cakewalk files.
Now Sonar is made by Cakewalk, I belive it should open old files as well or am I wrong?

Just export all your tracks to WAV or FLAC. Same way you can collaborate with someone else using a different DAW.

Thanks for responses. Seidy - yr right about both Reaper & sonar. Looks like I need to go with Sonar, even though I like a lot of things about Reaper.

What version of Cakewalk were you using. Sonar has changed a lot over the years.

I was using Guitar tracks 2 - don't laugh. It's limited but the work flow is so fast. So far I'm just spending a lot of time resizing windows & trying to remember too much info in Sonar. i know I'll get better but the question is how long do i want to hang in there.
