switching capsules on a MK 012?

I just bought a russian made 012, with the 3 different capsules. I assume this one is russian because the owners manual is in russian, and there is a handsigned page in it with the date 20-8-03, and a sound graph of some sort, with hand written numbers on it.

I am wondering can I can change the -10db filter and the different polar pattern caps, while the mic is plugged into the preamp, or do I have to turn everything down, or turn it off? Thanks

Walter it is always best to shut the pre down to zero gain and shut off phantom power when connecting or disconnecting mics. If you leave the power on and unscrew the caps it will make a ton of noise and possibly do some arcing. Could also mess up your preamp or power amp / speaker combo if turned up loud.

It is for sure a reasonable safety precaution.
