Switched froSonar 8.5 to Pro tools 8LE.....I need help

I love my Sonar, but a song writing friend in Nashville convinced me I need to be using Pro Tools. Ok, set up on the puter, can record fine. Using the MBOX. I was using an Edirol UA-4FX which i loved. First, I cant listen to any of my mp3 files on my puter unless the Edirol is plugged up. Wont play it back through the MBOX. Second, I cant transfer any of my data work from Sonar to Pro Tools. Third, I cant use any of my VST plugins like Guitar Rig 5 with Protools. Help, what am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the forums.

1. For us to help you with the mp3 playback issue, please post what type of computer OS you are using. On a mac, for example, you can simply go to System Preferences and adjust the Audio settings so that system sounds playback through the MBox. There is a similar procedure for Windows, but we need the OS version first.

2. ProTools LE uses the RTAS (Real Time AudioSuite) plugin format rather than VST. If you have purchased plugins for Sonar, check the install discs or download files to see if an RTAS version is included.

Using Protools.
Unless you need to send this guy sessions or need to be able to open his sessions, forget it. Just use what works for you.
There's no industry standard.

Practical advice though? Kinetic is bang on. What OS are you on?
If it's mac I can talk you through the steps.

Thanks guys, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I love using the sonar myself, he does want me to be able to transfer the sessions to his puter now and then. Not using a Mac, Just a good ole Dell lol

I say do what you want.
If you want to learn PT then that's cool, but it really is unjustifiably expensive and they've a history of being behind!

I decided to keep using my Sonar 8. I love it, quick with it and comfy. I am not in Nashville and only submitting songs to pitch so they will change everything anyway lol. thanks guys.
