And thought the V6 sounded really detailed on top and in the midrange, but lacking weight in the low end.

Returned the V6s for a pair of V8s. Trying them tonight.

The Behringers probably sounded more bassy because they have a bigger woofer than the V6.

A more fair comparison will be between the 2031 and the V8.

(So, then what happened next?)

I'll post a bit later with impressions.

Without having heard them yet, all I can tell you is that they are big and heavy.

yeah the new Justin Timberlake and others video...their dancing or waving their arms around or something,

in a studio,

and there's the V8's in the background....on top the console ledges. real quick glimpse.

it was the best part of the video imo. :D

V8's are nice and bassy if needed to be,i love mine :D

A few hours in - first impressions

With only the 2031as and the V6IIs to compare to, the V8 IIs are very competent monitors. Compared to the V6IIs, they're a little floppier in the mids and high mids and a little less crispy on the highs. The lows missing from the V6 are present in the V8, but they don't jump out at you like the 2031as. It sounds a little more natural to my ears. I can hear different LF sounds very clearly, and the HF sounds more clear than the Behris. The difference between the KRK models in the mids is more pronounced, the difference in the highs is pretty subtle. The difference overall between the Behris and the V8II isn't vast, but is apparent at first listen.

All in all I think it shows me that the 2031as were pretty decent monitors for 350 bucks, and that the V8s are going to be keepers.

/comes back later/

The LF in my room seems pronounced at high volume levels.

These monitors will get louder than I ever could possibly want, and will really tire my ears out at high volume.

a total makeover of the room may be showing to be the "weakest link" at this point?

...but for $350 versus $1,000, or $3,000..... in a HR environment, maybe spend some cha-Ching$$$ on some more 703 or diffusors?

but does this "room" theory mean a improved room will make the $350 monitors sound worse and the $1,000 sound better? :p

Currently we've got floor to celing superchunks in the four main corners, eight panels of alternate 2" and 4" 6pcf mineral wool on the walls, and 4" thick 2 foot square panels in the opposite peak corners of the room. Auralex 50/50 mix on the celing, reflective floors. Our problem for a while was too much HF absorbtion, and we put up a lot of bamboo runners and a few posters on the panels to put a little sparkle back in the room. I think I'm hearing the monitors fairly well, despite the size of the room. But then again, you can't have too many bass traps, I don't think.

I learned my lesson from upgrading too many things all at once. Oh, and the foam. Too much foam is very bad. It looked so pretty, but it sounded like crap. It took us a fairly long time to get things sorted out.

You need to use the KRK's exclusively for a month or two, then go back and listen to the Behringers. At that point I doubt you'll think the difference is as subtle. Right now your ears are tuned to the Behringers.
