Swamped bv digital recording equipment- how do I keep it simple;at reasonable cost?

I want to record speakers who will use a podium. Unobtrusive is the key here.

I will be sitting in the audience and need a remote (that works) , a way to listen to what

the speaker says while he or she is talking and long range reception-at least 10 or more fe

feet.

I would like to keep it below $200. That is it! Can you help? I don't want an L.A. phone

for an operating manual. Thank you.

You can use the built-in mics or take a pair of line outputs off the soundboard, or both at the same time. If you record both you have a safety take.

You say "unobtrusive", does that mean you cannot have a standard mic setup?

If you mean a hidden mic then I am not sure that is legal in many places? (in uk they have to tell you your phone call may be recorded for "training purposes". There is usually a long pause after I say "that's ok I might be recording you"!)

Then, from the rest of your post I gather you effectively want a radio mic sending to your position where you will have the receiver and the recorder? Not going to do all that on $200. Can you not run a discrete balanced mic line to the podium?

There might be some Wi-Fi iPad ***t that could help here, I dont have one.

Do the speakers know you're trying to record them? Is that what "unobtrusive" means?

Or, you can use a good digital recorder (minidisc or flash) set to automatic record level, put it on the lectern, and let it run for an hour or two. Then edit the sound at your leisure.
