Enough talken' and jiven' ..... where is my money!
Here, you can have it all. I don't care anymore, because Richard Gere is waiting outside in his white limo to take me away and make me his bride.

I'd say for me the song is most important, for a deal, production. Technology has got to the point where you really can polish a turd.

How sweet!! And romantic!! Guess you're gonna have babies together too, right?? Bless you both. That means we'll lose one of our valued musical geniuses. That's a SAD NOTE to leave us with, my friend!

Does Richard know how to stroke a guitar? Or up his input? Or daisy chain some components? If yes, goodbye, Glen, we'll SORELY miss you (or maybe it won't be so sore after all).

I agree, buzzard bass! I believe in the fundamental value that the song is what matters: everything else is layering on the cake. A shitty song will still sound shitty even if it's well produced. You can't fool the average listener (or music executives). Lousy lyrics, bad song. Stupid melody, bad song. Put gravy over a burnt turkey: it will still taste burnt in the end.

OOOOO. A lot of water. That's a thought. Do you polish it lengthwise or width-wise?? Just curious. I'm here to learn from experts. Will it then be like a waveform? Will there be steep or gradual slopes?

Thank God I'm a musician and I'm so blessed to be in the company of so many gifted musical people here. Where else can you get a real pulse on life like here??

Mike

Either here or in prison ..... it's always your choice.

What are we talking about here? Willie Nelson is Richard Gere's pimp? Anyway, to make a point about the OP, Elliott Smith = great songs without a lot of production (depending on what you consider production). But if he were here today he might note that when selling your soul, be sure to specify that you want your fame before your death.

As for my point of view, Womanizer by Binty Smears, end of statement.

Sell my soul, Greg?

Yup, to whoever will buy it. You gotta luck out, sell out, and be a suckass to "make it". It's pointless to even try. Long gone are the days of being discovered in some bar and/or dropping off demos to record companies. Do music because it's fun, and make a living some other way.

I'd say the song. A mediocre song with good production is still a mediocre song. An awesome song with mediocre production....is an awesome song with mediocre production! :)
Most music folks can see past the production if the song itself is compelling.

Wasn't Elvis discovered by that "make your own 45" song for his mom?
Bet the quality of that was ..... well like one of those "make your own 45s" <think karaoke bar>
Greatness shines from the lowliness of places.
