anyone have an opinion on the quality of superlux mircophones? any model.

I'll take yours if you don't want it.

They're supposed to be okay/decent mics for the price.

absurdly cheap. and decent enough to justify the price.

if i were to duct tape a mic to my dog to see what it sounds like at the dog park, i would use my superlux.

i also take it to shows, have no fears of it getting dropped or spilled on.

uhhh. maybe. probably not.

what is your budget/needs?

there are some other SUPER cheap mics that might work a little better.

I've been using a Superlux 218A for kick drum. Sounds great, $25. It's beat out a AKG D112 twice on two very different kits at nearly 10 percent of the price.

Keep in mind, that these were both heads-on-ported kick drums (like a live performance type set-up).Very little if any EQ, handle the SPL's nicely and sound punch as hell.

I haven't figured out how to upload tracks from my CDR's to the 'net yet (I'm fairly computer illiterate) or I'd let you hear 'em.

I was in rehearsals for a studio session this week, and the drummer brought a Superlux CM-H8A LD condenser with him for me to try on my double bass. It sounded absolutely wonderful - far better than my now-defunct MXL V67. Since I knew nothing about the brand, I assumed it was an extremely expensive mic (based on the sound). When I finally asked him what it cost, my jaw just about hit the floor. I'll be ordering one today or tomorrow. What amazes me is that it's really difficult to find anyplace that even sells these mics, despite the good reviews it seems to get. I've been looking for a good LD double bass mic for years, and one falls in my lap - and it turns out to be a mic that isn't at all well known or easy to find even though it's absurdly inexpensive. Go figure...

Superlux

I have a recent communication from Ray at Superlux which explains more about their mic. I don't wan't it to post his message because I don't want it to appear that I'm doing a commercial spam job, so send me a private message and I'll forward it to you. I certainly get the impression that Ray will take the time to directly address any concerns/questions that you have.

I don't have any Superlux mics (yet). I did purchase their HM-32 and HM-30 shockmounts for SDC mics. At $6, they are an incredible bargain (I prefer the HM-32), the HM-32 offering a more "universal" approach and better isolation. What a bargain!

I may be able to pick up a pair of PRO-228A tom mics for $50. Seems like a great price to me even if they're not great mics. Anyone have experience with 'em? Are they better for stage or recording?

I've had the oportunity to use a CM-H8D tube mic and I'd use it again in a heart-beat over the MXL V67 and the SP C1. Sound was very clean and full through a high-end Buzz Audio preamp. The 3 micron diaphram gives it a nice sensitivity too.
Oh, and they retail for about AU$1500 here so I wouldn't exactly call them cheap. That's close to where the Neumans start coming in at.
